About This Lesson

Like the original film, Zootopia 2 thoughtfully explores themes of discrimination, identity, power, and belonging. This chart was created to help educators connect key ideas from the movie to articles and Share My Lesson resources that deepen student understanding of these real-world issues. As the chart came together, it became clear just how much further high school students can go with these topics—through debate, research projects, or reading jigsaws—while still offering powerful entry points for middle school classrooms.

The paired articles and lessons invite students to examine segregation, colonialism, feminism, urban planning, and LGBTQ+ inclusion, all through a lens that connects pop culture to history and civic life. Most importantly, these resources support meaningful conversations guided by caring adults, helping students learn how to engage respectfully and thoughtfully as members of a diverse community.

This chart only scratches the surface of the many ways Zootopia 2 can be used as a teaching tool. If you explore additional connections between the film, current events, and Share My Lesson resources, we invite you to share your discoveries. As Judy Hopps—and poet Amanda Gorman—remind us, we must be brave enough to have these conversations.
